When looking for the best deal on satellite TV, like Dish Network or DIRECTV, you have three areas to consider: programming, price, and use. Here are ten questions you can ask yourself to help you choose between them.
Programming
For most people, programming is the number one consideration for selecting a satellite provider. After all, if you can’t watch what you want to watch, what are you paying for?
While the two providers tend to offer the same channels, they are packaged differently. DIRECTV also offers a greater variety of sports packages, while Dish Network provides more HD programming. Here are some questions to ask when choosing between them:
1. Is a package available with all the channels I want to watch?
2. Do I want additional sports or entertainment packages? If so, who has what I want to watch?
3. Do I want HD channels? If so, who offers the ones I want?
Price
Price, like programming, tends to be similar. Dish Network is usually a little cheaper for its most basic package over DIRECTV’s basic package. Here’s what to ask:

5. What is the total cost of installation? Are there any additional fees?
6. How long do I have to sign up for?
7. Am I getting special discount rates for a limited time? If so, what are the rates I will have to pay when these expire and how long will I have to pay them?
Use
One difference between Dish Network and DIRECTV is in how you can use their systems. If you want to be able to watch more than one program in different locations, the solution may be different depending on the provider. This will affect cost. Ask these questions:
8. Do I need to be able to view different programs at the same time at different locations?
9. Is the user interface easy and understandable? For instance, how difficult is it to block inappropriate content or record my favorite show?
10. How easy is it to upgrade or add extras, such as Pay-per-view?
