When you begin your DirecTV setup, all the channels that DirecTV offers are shown by default, whether or not you have subscribed to them. It’s easy to customize your DIRECTV menu so only the channels you subscribe to are shown. Here are two quick guides to accomplishing this task depending on the kind of receiver you have.
Standard DIRECTV® Receiver:
1. Press GUIDE on the remote.
2. Press the YELLOW button on the remote so the Guide Options menu is displayed.
3. Select “Change Favorites List” from the options you’re shown. You can program up to two custom lists.
4. Since this is your first customized list, select “Setup Custom 1.”
5. Press the right arrow button so “Add Channels I Get” is highlighted.
6. Press SELECT on the remote.
7. Press the LEFT arrow two times. A message will be displayed asking if you want to change the current favorites list to the custom list you just created. Choose “Yes, change current.”
8. To test out the change, press GUIDE on your remote. It should now display only the channels you have subscribed to. Also, “Custom 1″ should be displayed on the bottom left of the guide screen.
DIRECTV Plus® HD DVR, DIRECTV® HD Receiver or DirectTV Plus® DVR:
1. Press GUIDE on the remote.
2. Press the YELLOW button on the remote so the Guide Options menu is displayed.
3. Select “Change Favorites List” for the options you’re shown.
4. Select “Channels I get” so only the channels you have subscribed to will be displayed.
5. Now, “Channels I get (fav)” should be displayed on the bottom left of the guide screen.
Clearly, it’s easy to ensure that only your subscribed-to channels are shown in the menu. This gives you peace of mind when allowing your children to watch TV by themselves.
