If you enjoy watching reality television on DIRECTV or Dish Network, you are certainly not alone. This is one of the most popular categories of TV today because the action and drama is real and unscripted. Get ready for a reality show check to see what’s being voted as the top reality TV shows on the air today.
Myth Busters – This reality show is in a documentary format. Two special effects experts—Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage—put urban legends and Hollywood stunts to the test in scientific ways. At the end of each experiment, viewers learn whether particular myths are “
Busted,” “Plausible,” or “Confirmed.”
Man vs. Wild – The entire cast of this primetime realty show is comprised of one man named Bear Grylls. The only theatrical aspect about the show is that this “natural survivor” is followed by cameramen, so he’s never in any real danger. However, he’s still daring enough to eat disgusting things and “rough it” in the wild to the degree that most people in their right minds would never attempt. Bear’s personality is entertaining even without the outrageous situations he puts himself in.
The Amazing Race – The show began 10 years ago and is still high on the list of top reality TV shows of today. 12 teams of two race one other around the world, meeting up at a series of checkpoints and trying not to be eliminated. The last team that arrives at the checkpoint featured in that episode is eliminated from the show. Of course, this in entertaining by itself, but tension seen in the relationships of the pairs working together is fascinating to watch as well.
So You Think You Can Dance – This show is more like a talent contest than anything else. It has been the winner of 7 primetime Emmys. The judges that are present on every show are Nigel Lythgoe, Cat Deeley, and Mary Murphey.
American Idol – Since its start in 2002, this reality TV show has had a serious makeover. Only one of the original judges—Randy Jackson—remains on the show. His original coworkers Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul have been replaced by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Ryan Seacrest, the singing talent contest’s host, has been around since the beginning as well. Despite all these changes, the yearly search for America’s next singing sensation continues to win viewers and contestants with each successive year.
That’s the end of your reality show check. Now that you know the top shows that are on the air, you can tune in your local satellite TV to your top picks from among these entertaining shows.
