In this three-part article about the top shows of decades past, we reminisce about the top 10 shows of the 2000s. If you enjoyed watching television during this decade, then this list will certainly bring back memories. You can find reruns of many of these shows playing on local satellite TV.

1. Friday Night Lights – A mixed cast of adult and teen actors make this sports-genre TV show enjoyable for all ages. Honest emotion is wrung out of the writing by the entire cast while impressive sports action sequences make their appearance as well.
2. Sex and the City – This dramedy is a tale of love, loss, and friendship, which combines to make a great chick flick. Appealing male guest stars each week it aired from 1998-2004 added to the fun for a vastly female audience.
3. 30 Rock – This workplace comedy starring Tina Fey has been the winner of three consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series. It debuted in 2006 and is still on the air today.
4. The Sopranos – Tony Soprano is the head of a mob family in this show, giving him much more to balance than just work and family life. The entertaining show aired from 1999-2007.
5. House – Dr. House, played by Hugh Laurie, is as grumpy as they come. He can diagnose any illness, which is perhaps the only reason his team puts up with this insufferable coworker. The series began in 2004 and is still going strong.
6. The Office – The American remake of the British original, led by Steve Carell, puts an interesting spin on office life. Relationships, rivalries, and attempts at intimidation abound in this series, running from 2005-present.
7. 24 – Less than two weeks after the 9/11 attacks, this show debuted, providing the American public with just the hero they needed. Plot twists in a real-time format make this a TV show that’s as thrilling as any action movie.
8. Gilmore Girls – Witty dialogue and excellent co-star chemistry abound in this romantic dramedy that aired from 2000-2007. Lauren Graham plays a single mom named Lorelai. Her daughter, Rory, is played by Alexis Bledel.
9. How I Met Your Mother – This show was surely inspired by Friends based on its friendship sitcom feel, but this time Neil Patrick Harris lends a hand in the comedy factor. The show began in 2005 and is still running today.
10. Alias – Jennifer Garner stars as a spy chick named Sydney Bristow. She battles international villains with martial arts in meager disguises. The show, which ran from 2001-2006, helped to spur Garner’s movie career.
You can enjoy many episodes of these top 10 shows from the 2000s because many are still airing new episodes today. Those that have reached their end can still be accessed with Dish Network or DIRECTV.
